This episode is a reading of an article previously published in the Massachusetts Music Educators Journal, titled “The Year of Tyler, the Creator: Teaching the Creative Process”.

Excerpt: “In my music production classroom, I often use Tyler as an example of what we call “the other 80%”—the creative potential that exists beyond standardized metrics of success. Tyler’s journey, from being kicked out of his high school band for his hyperactivity - to producing, performing, and designing every facet of his artistry, is a perfect illustration of creativity in action. Students are often unaware of the thousands of hours that go into honing a craft—the composing, arranging, mixing, and editing that comprise a professional musician’s daily work. This lack of understanding is exacerbated in an era dominated by standardized testing, where students are conditioned to seek “the correct answer” rather than engage with the iterative process of creation.”
